People have really been feeling it this last week in the UK, Hay fever that is. For some it’s a clearing of old stuff so that we can move forward (those lovely ascension groans and creaks), for others it’s a return of the yearly symptoms… it’s a message from your body saying ‘help, I’m struggling!’
So, here’s a little reminder about the possible causes and what you can do to address Hay Fever for good.
Hay Fever is a sign of a deep imbalance in the body. It’s not just that the trees are shedding more pollen, or the wind is stronger, or the bedroom’s dustier. If pollen/grass/dust were the problem then we’d all be sneezing away…. it would be an absolute sneeze-fest!
Hay Fever is a sign of a deeper immunity problem, the natural immunity response has either been suppressed or sent haywire and an inability to discern what’s harmful (and release it) and what’s not harmful (and allow it in) results.
This imbalance can be caused by an imbalance of our gut flora (we need gut flora and we need it to be balanced otherwise one bacteria goes on a power trip and releases excess histamine into our body), by an overload of toxicity which overloads our organs (and has an effect on the gut flora), by emotional baggage held in the body (unexpressed tears and anger have to go somewhere!), by having a physical system that’s too acidic (from stress or poor diet), from a history of medication including anaesthetics, antibiotics, the contraceptive pill, from heavy metal toxicity, from plastic toxicity and from the use of antihistamines which throw the system further out of balance (they send the immune system completely hay wire!)…
So, what to do about it?
As it’s a deep problem that’s causing all of that sneezing, then deep treatment is needed. Treatment to clear the effects of past suppression (from antibiotics or vaccinations), to balance the gut flora, to clear held emotions and toxicity. In my practice I combine deep acting Homeopathic remedies, herbs, dietary and lifestyle advice and hands on healing to bring about these shifts. Other natural therapy options are Acupuncture, Acupressure, Aromatherapy, Naturopathy etc. The results are that not only do the Hay Fever symptoms reduce and eventually clear completely, the body is all-round healthier and stronger, able to achieve so much more without the baggage of past emotions, toxicity and suppression (and the destruction of sneezing). In addition, there are many things you can do, here are just a few…
Reduce your toxic load by cutting out Wheat (the body doesn’t know what to do with it and it causes inflammation!), processed dairy (pasteurised milk products aren’t easily digested – if you love dairy then stick to raw milk and cheeses made from raw milks), sugars (and grains as they create sugar in your system), reducing alcohol intake (which overloads the liver and in turn impairs digestion).
Clearing out toxins is also important, for most there’s been quite a build up over time and it takes some extra efforts to clear it all. I find that taking Pure Body Zeolites along with Touchstone’s Supergreens+ D really helps to clear out the crud.
Drink plenty of pure, clean water to help your body to de-tox.
Address your stress levels. If your Adrenal Glands are overactive and always firing then your body tends to over-react to things. Also cutting out coffee for a while will help to calm your Adrenal Glands.
Eat organic veg. The purer the food we eat, and the less processing it’s been through, the less toxicity is being added to the body. Eating good quality organic green leafy veg will help to de-tox your system (preferably in the raw state). Super-green’s such as Chlorella and Spirulina are also fantastic for guiding toxicity out of your body.
Balance your gut bacteria – Eat natural (home made preferably) yoghurt made from raw milk, or Kefir where possible. This will help to balance the gut flora. This is preferable to many of the factory made probiotics which tend to create more havoc in the system. I’ll share details about Kefir later. Also Fermented Veg. If you’re not into the home made stuff, then Bio-kult is a fantastic probiotic supplement.
Take Sambucus in herbal tincture form to boost your immunity (following the recommended dosage on the pack).
And to address the nasty symptoms…
Homeopathic Euphrasia is a great remedy (in 30c potency) to carry around with you. Take it whenever an attack of the sneezes comes on and repeat as often as is needed. It will calm the symptoms beautifully.
Homeopathic Allium Cepa is also a great stand-by. It will help to calm the watery stinging eyes.
For my patients, I make up a combo of these remedies along with the nasties that create the reactions (in homeopathic form) and it’s a lovely tonic to reduce the symptoms. At the same time it’s important to address the underlying dysfunction with some deeper remedies.
Hay fever’s worth addressing, not only will you be free of symptoms but your overall health and vitality will benefit. Yay!!!
An energetic/spiritual p.s… If you are sensitive to allergens, your higher self might need to further ground into your physical body (enabling you to better deal in a strong way with what your body comes in contact with). You’ll have so much more energy and strength once issues are addressed and you connect further with your soul or higher self enabling you to discern what to clear out and what to absorb… and enabling you to connect with and fulfil your purpose! Homeopathy & Healing again are fantastic tools for this.
